Inviting timber frame house tucked into a serene forest in the Catskills
This gorgeous lodge-style timber frame house was designed by architect Jeff Wilkinson, set above a fly fishing stream in the Catskill Mountains, New York. Surrounded by an idyllic forest setting of 400 acres, this newly constructed dwelling features an indoor lap pool and spa, a two-story great room, a custom gourmet kitchen, four bedrooms, and eight individual bathrooms.
The home is as notable for its meticulous attention to detail throughout. The pool and radiant floor are heated by a fuel-efficient wood-burning furnace. Hull Forest Products custom-made the solid white oak quarter and rift-sawn wood floors used throughout this rustic refuge. The home incorporates natural and locally sourced stone and wood —vertical grain Douglas fir for the timber frame.
Woodhouse: The Timber Frame Company collaborated with the architects on the initial plans of the timber frame concept. This included consulting on the technical requirements for installing a dormer window in the great room to specifying a state-of-the-art dehumidifying system for the pool and spa area to protect the timber from moisture.
The warm and inviting living spaces of this home were decorated by interior stylist Anna Molvik.

The architects devised an elegant, sustainable and eco-friendly plan that appears to grow organically from its breathtaking surroundings. Taking nearly 18 months to complete, this home inspires peace and tranquility for its occupants.
Additional highlights in this 6,000-square-foot dwelling include two home offices, a study, a lounge, and an 18th-century-inspired “keeping room”.
The homeowners commissioned landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates to transform their sprawling property into a wildlife preserve. Mindful of the owner’s vision, the architects thoughtfully considered the driveway approach and maintain the region’s unspoiled flora and fauna.
